I Quit You Magic, Magic Take Me Back

May 6, 2021 – May 30, 2021

I Quit you Magic, Magic Take Me Back is about pivot points and moments of reflection. We have all experienced these over the past year, but for artist Doug Spencer it has meant rediscovering interests, lapsed friendships that were once important, and finding new ways to incorporate them back into his life.

Many years ago Spencer performed magic tricks for a group of nine-year-olds at a birthday party, who were so bored and embarrassed at his attempt that the artist mused it was the night magic quit him. Through the artwork I Quit you Magic, Magic Take Me Back Spencer is inviting magic back into his life and embracing the things he loves, owning being earnest, and seeking a renewed sense of clarity.

Featuring artwork created by meticulously smoking panes of acrylic with a lighter to construct intricate patterns and and images, Spencer has become the master of a new discipline of art that can only be described as magic.
