Bartók’s

Bluebeard’s Castle

Produced by Denver Immersive Opera in collaboration with Whitney Waugh Dance, Chris Bagley, and Understudy.

Explore the realms of the subconscious in this exciting collaboration between Denver Immersive Opera, Whitney Waugh Dance, and artist Chris Bagley. Sung in English, this production of Bartók’s haunting Bluebeard’s Castle puts the audience in the middle of the action as Bluebeard’s new wife, Judith, discovers the dark secrets of his past.

Video artwork by Chris Bagley and the dancers of Whitney Waugh Dance create each castle room (and secret) Judith finds. After exploring every room, Judith must decide if she can truly bring light to Bluebeard’s dark, gloomy castle.

Bluebeard’s Castle will run March 14-17 and 21-24, 2019 starting at 7:00pm. Performances of Bluebeard’s Castle are ticketed and can be purchased via SimpleTix: http://bit.ly/2Wq5GWt

Interested in how we put together a show? Dress rehearsals March 9-12 at 7:00pm are free and open to the public! Seating is limited and is first come, first served.

Biography

Denver Immersive Opera was founded in 2017 with the goal of creating intimate, site-specific, and modern productions relevant to today’s audiences. Every DIO opera is sung in English, and the majority are underperformed and/or American works. DIO also focuses on providing paying performance opportunities for local performers, particularly those identifying as female.

In their incredibly successful opening season, DIO produced three American operas, The Medium, The Consul and Trouble in Tahiti. These productions put audiences up close and personal with performers, allowing them to hear what an opera singer really sounds like. The intimacy of these productions also made it unavoidable to consider the issues they presented, which ranged from the refugee crisis to American gender roles. Founder, Corinne Denny, is excited to move on to the second stage in DIO’s development with Bluebeard’s Castle, collaborating with artists from other mediums, and continuing to create productions that make everyone excited about opera.
