I are
September 2022

I are is a piece that tries to raise a question: is the self an immutable object or it is a multiple, non-defined, way of inhabiting the world? Identity has always been at the core of many disciplines of thought, such as philosophy, sociology, psychology… Yet it is almost impossible to define as one object that we can all agree upon. This artwork represents my personal stands on the subject matter – I believe we are in communion with other beings, human and non-human, always navigating the passing of time and the bonds we create with all that around us. To believe that we are only one thing is a source of suffering, as we shift and adjust to circumstances and bloom through life to come close to something that resembles us yet doesn’t define us completely. The impossibility of being whole should not be a source of pain, but the fuel of a beautiful quest that we will go on as long as we are breathing. The body we see in the piece represents the state of change, as it shifts, comes back to normal, then dilutes into space becoming multiple versions of itself. There’s no pain, no suffering – just a beautiful capacity to adapt. I are is a celebration of our capacity to become many things, come back to our essence and change again, without fear.
