My animation considers the festival theme ‘7th Dimension’ through the lens of utopian possibility. Tower-like structures have been a significant feature of my computer animations as symbols and manifestations of utopian desire, and as staging for themes and tensions around nature and culture through the rendering of complex digital ecosystems. The tower can also be considered as a contingent structure that can rise and fall, a permeable and provisional structure that through animation can be activated as a state of flux, a reminder of the fragility of utopian desire and the transience of human endeavor. This animation aims to engage with the Daniels and Fisher Clocktower projection surface as both a screen as well as an architectural construct that serves as a structuring formal element for the re-animation of the façade as an emergent structure. My animation will feature a range of animated elements that I have deployed as part of series of ongoing works in recent years in exploring representations of the utopian and the dystopian, including moving figures enacting various ritual-like scenarios, encroaching and receding flora, and constructing and de-constructing architectural forms.
