Entangled Others
http://www.entangledothers.com/Liquid Strata immerses viewers in the hidden world of marine snow, a cascade of organic particles falling towards ocean depths. Born from a collaboration with oceanographer Joan Llort, the resulting piece aims to create an experiential "window" into the mesopelagic, revealing what cannot be directly observed: the delicate journey of biological matter as it drifts toward the seafloor. Whilst our knowledge of this global phenomena remains fragmentary, it is both a critical part of ocean biodiversity, and an important carbon sequestration mechanism.
In order to convey both the rich biodiversity of this twilight zone phenomenon and the beauty of its complexities, the work attempts to create a "fly on the wall" experience. Modeled from the combination of different observational and data-based research, the resulting process of complex simulation is presented not as a cohesive whole, but as a patchwork of digital and physical fragments.
Liquid Strata is part of the May 2025 program MO CAP, curated by Geraldine Erman.
About the Artists
Entangled Others is the shared studio practice of artists Feileacan Kirkbride McCormick and Sofia Crespo. Their work focuses on ecology, artificial lifeforms and generative arts, with an emphasis on giving the more-than-human new forms a presence and life in digital space.
